Progress Report 28 May 2002

Sixteen months since our last update and very little progress has been made on the Onehouse Model Railway. Point motors and signalling have been installed on Level 0. We have spent a lot of time designing the elctronics for the layout and purchased components but not actually built anything as yet.

The main culprit of all this inactivity has been the advent of Train Simulation software. Starting with Microsoft Train Simulator in June 2001. We spent most of the summer learning how to use it; how to build 3D models for it; writing tutorials for beginners using it and how to get the most out of it.

We have also taken on board demonstrating Microsoft Train Simulator at Model Railway Exhibitions as a means of giving the product greater exposure to railway enthusiasts around the country. It also means we get to more exhibitions than we would normally.

If that wasn't enough, in December 2001, Auran Trainz was released. This is a Model Railway Simulator and again we spent a lot of time using it and building virtual model railways.

See the new Sim Links Page and check them out for yourself.

Another culprit was my attendance at a course at the local college which has involved a considerable amount of time to complete.

Finally, the elderly gentleman in our midst also decided to build his own layout and I have spent some considerable time designing the electrics / electronics for his layout. This layout should be completed by the end of July. If he puts the layout on line we'll provide a link to it for all to see.

I can then hopefully get a lot more done on my layout during the summer months. No promises mind. I also hope to get at least some of the electronic circuits on line so that others can see them, and if they so wish, to use them.

If we make good progress this summer, then look out for a further update around November 2002, hopefully with a few photographs to show the progress made.
